The Democratic Alliance is calling on ANC provincial chairman Senzo Mchunu to retract the irresponsible statements he made in the media which are easily interpreted as encouraging political violence towards the DA.
Yesterday, Senzo Mchunu was quoted in Isolezwe and the Mercury saying it was worrying that DA posters were seen in townships and rural areas such as Nongoma.
He told Isolezwe that ANC members gave up their lives and fought for years to get to a point where they could put up ANC posters in Nongoma yet the DA just waltzed in and put up party posters with ease.
Considering that we are heading towards an election year, the DA is deeply disturbed by these utterances as they can be easily understood as saying the party must shed blood in order to be given the right to promote itself in certain regions.
KwaZulu-Natal is a province where much blood has been spilled over the decades as various political parties fight for the right to make themselves accessible in townships and rural areas and this needs to stop.
In recent years, various media have reported on multiple political assassinations in the province involving IFP, NFP and ANC members.
ANC members have already sabotaged DA visits to rural areas over the past few months namely in Nkandla, Swayimane, Mpophomeni and Mandeni and this worrying trend must come to an end.
Senzo Mchunu must demonstrate his political tolerance by recanting his dangerous statement or he may end up with blood on his hands.
