Today during the budget debate for the Department of Communications, Minister of Communications, Ray Padayachee, announced the appointment of Mrs. Rosie Siskesie as the Director General of Communications. The Democratic Alliance welcomes the appointment; for far too long now the department has been without a permanent DG.
We take this opportunity to thank Mr Harold Wesson for the work that he did during his time as acting DG. In his own words, the Department of Communications “was a sinking ship and in total disarray”. We are pleased with the improvements made by the department, due largely to the successful leadership of Harold Wesson.
We now look forward to the department continuing its improvement; we look forward to the liberalization of communications, the universal access to ICT and the bridging of the digital divide.
