This Saturday, 28 July 2012, the Democratic Alliance will launch a national Jobs Campaign. This will be the biggest campaign the DA has ever embarked upon outside of elections.
We want to show South Africa just how seriously we take the jobs crisis. The DA has the plan and the political will to create millions of jobs.
At the campaign launch at Freedom Park, Pretoria on Saturday, DA Leader Helen Zille will present the DA’s Plan for Growth and Jobs.
The document which underpins this campaign, the DA’s Plan for Growth and Jobs, has been developed by DA Federal Chairperson Dr Wilmot James through an extensive internal policy formulation process. This plan is the culmination of many hours, days, weeks and months of intense debate in the party about how best to grow the economy and create jobs.
We have also consulted with academic economists, private sector economists, domestic and international economic experts and various leading financial and economic institutions in South Africa and from around the world. This will be the most comprehensive and detailed jobs and economics plan the Democratic Alliance has ever proposed.
In the coming weeks, we will take this Plan all over South Africa. Our campaign will be based around five key themes:
- Education for jobs
- Helping people start their own businesses
- Giving young job-seekers a youth wage subsidy
- Building infrastructure for growth
- Lowering taxes for greater investment
To give every South African the opportunity of hearing our message, we will:
- Stage a number of Leaders’ events designed to showcase job creation in DA governments and what we would do if given the opportunity to govern nationally
- Erect a large number of posters across the country
- Erect billboards in key metros
- Drop pamphlets in all of South Africa’s languages
- Launch a mass SMS campaign to contact as many people as possible
Connect with people, especially young South Africans, through a series of outreach and interaction programmes on various social media platforms like Mxit, Facebook and Twitter
Initiate a huge grassroots outreach effort by every DA structure across the country, including thousands of branch activities.
Our objective is to speak to as many South Africans as possible, to tell them about our plan to create more jobs and grow the economy. And we want people to hear, loud and clear, that the only way to change their circumstances is to use the power of their vote.
By the end of this campaign, everybody will see that a vote for the DA is a vote for jobs.
