The Democratic Alliance (DA) is aware of a disturbing post by a fan of Julius Malema, identified only as Thato Mbateti Mbateti, on the social networking website, Facebook. The author incites violence against South Africans, and makes reference to a plan to "kill Zuma within the next six weeks".

Whilst the DA champions free speech and the right of citizens to engage in open public debate on fora such as Facebook, we nevertheless believe this post to egregious enough to warrant further investigation. We will therefore be referring the matter to the South African Police Service, as well as laying a complaint with the website's moderators.

We furthermore call on Julius Malema, as President of the ANC Youth League, to distance himself emphatically from these remarks.

We will keep the public updated as to the progress of action against this individual.
