The controversial textbook supply company EduSolutions, best known for its role in the textbook supply scandal in Limpopo and other provinces, provides logistical services regarding Learner Teacher Support Material (LTSM) procurement and delivery processes for the Gauteng Education Department.
This was revealed by Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy in a written reply to my question in the Gauteng Legislature.
I have submitted further questions to the MEC requesting information on the extent of EduSolutions’ involvement with the department, as well as the value and term of the contract.
Amid recent textbook and workbook delivery chaos involving this company in several provinces, it is rather concerning that the Gauteng Education Department have also contracted its services.
I recently visited Eldomaine High School in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, and found that grades 8, 9 and 11 have to share forty textbooks. Learners are also unable to take the books home.
There are other schools like Edenglen Primary in Ekurhuleni, Somelulwazi primary school in Freedom Park and other schools without workbooks. This is unacceptable. Every learner must have his/her own books to use for their homework and home studies.
We cannot have a company whose track record suggests complete ineptitude affecting the quality of Gauteng Education.
