Matric exam papers have been sent in unsealed boxes to at least two schools in Limpopo's Blouberg municipality and one school in Makhado municipality.
This was witnessed by Democratic Alliance councillors currently monitoring the distribution of matric exam papers in Limpopo.
The unsealed boxes raise security concerns that papers could go missing or be stolen.
Protocol requires all exam papers to be properly sealed on arrival at schools and for the completed exam scripts to be sent back to the markers in sealed packages.
The DA has already phoned Education MEC, Dickson Masemola, to inform him about the issue.
We have resolved to hold the department accountable for any losses of exam papers. All papers should be kept at various schools for safe keeping and all sealed boxes of exam papers must reach schools affected within 24 hours.
Following our telephonic conversation with MEC Masemola, we will write to him to formally request an investigation into this matter and to urge him to make sure that all schools in the province receive all relevant exam material on time.
Activists and councillors will continue to monitor the distribution of exam papers to ensure that all boxes are sealed.
