The DA has laid incitement to violence charges against Tony Ehrenreich in his capacity as COSATU provincial secretary for a poster currently being pasted around the Cape metro.

The poster proudly states: “FEEL IT!!! Western Cape Marikana is here!!!” A Nehawu logo is displayed above a picture of Tony Ehrenreich, with text stating that he “has warned Premier Helen Zille on the imminent Marikana of the Western Cape” (sic).

The content of the poster repeats Mr Ehrenreich’s highly inflammatory remark earlier this month when he said “Marikana is coming to the farms in the Western Cape”.
Tony Ehrenreich seems intent on creating the climate that led to the violent and tragic clashes between police and workers at Marikana.

COSATU is using the symbolism and violence of Marikana to promote its public gatherings. This is happening even as South Africans grieve over images of all those who needlessly died in that tragedy.

COSATU and some factions of the ANC are desperately attempting to make the Western Cape ungovernable. They cannot win back the province in a democratic election so they are trying to sow chaos and confusion.

Tony Ehrenreich must be punished for this despicable display of incitement to violence.

Everyone with a public platform in the Western Cape has the responsibility to ensure that calm prevails here. We have already seen too much destruction and intimidation in recent weeks.

The DA expects the police to act on this matter without delay.
