The Democratic Alliance Students' Organisation (DASO) has won the largest share of seats in the elections for the Student's Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT). I am delighted to announce that Amanda Ngwenya has been elected as the President of the SRC. Amanda is the Branch Leader of DASO at UCT, and is also a current participant of the DA Young Leaders Programme. Five other UCT DASO members were elected to the SRC. They are Sean Darge, Vimbai Paraffin, Ross Hare, Kodwa Cengimbo and Mark Schoeman.

DASO's victory reflects the growth of DA support on campuses around South Africa. The Democratic Alliance Students' Organisation will play an important role in demonstrating the difference that the principles of the "open, opportunity society for all" bring to governance. In doing so, DASO is playing a significant role in the realignment of politics. Students are resuming their place in the forefront of South Africa's political developments.

I congratulate the DASO team at UCT, and the five other DASO candidates elected to the SRC, for an outstanding result.
