The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the announcement of the terms of reference of the investigation into the affairs of Cricket South Africa (CSA), to be chaired by KwaZulu-Natal High Court Judge, Chris Nicholson.

It is of serious concern that the state of the CSA has been allowed to degenerate to the extent that that the Minister has now been forced to intervene. This raises serious questions about the integrity of the sports administrators responsible for managing the CSA.
Sport has the potential to play a vital role in fostering reconciliation, and developing young South Africans. It should be used as a tool to build national unity and create opportunities, particularly for our children.

It is therefore vital that public faith in poorly managed sporting bodies, like the CSA, is restored.

I trust that the Nicholson Commission will, through its investigation into damning allegations of financial mismanagement that reportedly took place under the CSA's CEO, Gerald Majola, expose those guilty of misconduct and ensure that they are held to account.
