We welcome the President's announcement today that all restructuring at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has been stopped, as a result of my speech, in his Budget Vote debate yesterday.
The device of "deferring" any restructuring pending the conclusion by July of the JCPS Cluster Ministers' negotiations on the implementation of their performance agreements still holds dangers, however.
Adv Simelane remains in place and was not directly repudiated. Neither did the President directly answer the question whether he was unaware of the Simelane plans, which would imply that Adv Simelane was in defiance of the Presidential Proclamation which set up the SCCU.
The scale of the crisis which the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) has caused at the NPA calls for firm action.
