The Democratic Alliance (DA) calls on Judge Nkola Motata to resign from the bench. A judge found guilty of an offence cannot sit in judgment of others who are accused of breaking the law. The nature of the offence and the allegations made by witnesses are particularly important. We expect judges to behave impeccably in their personal as well as their professional lives. Should Judge Motata not resign, the matter will in all probability serve before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). We trust that the JSC will not again avoid doing its duty -- as it did with the Hlophe matter.
