The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the news that Sipho Thomo, Chief Executive Officer of Armscor, has been fired.

This will hopefully go a long way to bring to an end to a very unhappy chapter in the history of Armscor.

Sipho Thomo was reportedly fired after a disciplinary hearing that looked into "serious allegations" relating to his leadership and management at Armscor.

However, what we need is a detailed briefing on the termination of service of Sipho Thomo.

The DA will therefore call on Nyami Booi, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans, to invite Popo Molefe, Chairperson of the Armscor Board, to brief parliament on:

the charges brought against Sipho Thomo at the disciplinary hearing;
the final terms and conditions of the financial settlement with Sipho Thomo; and
the process to appoint a new boss and the plan going forward at Armscor.
