The North West Democratic Alliance registered its concern with the North West Provincial Legislature Speaker, Supra Mahumapelo, about the cancelling of a Special Sitting of the Legislature, scheduled to debate the Marikana Massacre.
The Special Sitting of the NW Provincial Legislature set for Friday 24th August only had 11 members present and could not quorate. The absence of Premier Thandi Modise and every single member of her cabinet without apology, also from the memorial event earlier on Friday, not only exhibited contempt for the Legislature as an institution but also displayed a non-caring arrogance about the tragic events at Marikana.
The arrogance displayed on Friday has become a trademark of the NW Government. Not even the tragic Marikana events could override the deep divisions prevalent within the NW ANC.
