Tomorrow marks the deadline for the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, to release the findings of her investigation into President Jacob Zuma's failure to disclose his financial interests, in breach of Section 5 of the Executive Ethics Code.

The Public Protector instigated her investigation in response to a written request by the Democratic Alliance (DA), sent on 8 March. We made this submission in terms of section 3(1) of the Executive Members' Ethics Act. The Act compels the Public Protector to produce a written report on the matter.

The way in which the Public Protector handles this request will say a great deal about the independence of this institution. We hope to see tomorrow that the Public Protector has investigated this matter openly, independently, and without fear, favour or prejudice, as they are mandated to do by section 181(2) of the Constitution. We await Adv Madonsela's response.
