The DA notes that Cabinet has approved the Green Paper on Land Reform, and plans to release it in the next week. We will study its contents closely once released, and make a full submission on it in due time.

The Green Paper represents the first substantive document that President Zuma’s government has presented on the important issue of land reform in South Africa. Today’s announcement follows a long process of previous drafts being sent back to Cabinet numerous times for further revision.

The public release of the Green Paper must kick off a necessary and overdue public debate on South Africa’s failing land reform programme. The DA looks forward to actively participating in and, indeed, leading this debate.

The DA supports a land reform programme which acts to redress the injustices of our past, in a manner that is fair and beneficial for all South Africans, and which promotes a growing economy, job creation and the enhancement of food security.
