The ANC-led national government has allowed gangsterism and drugs to spiral out of control throughout our communities. Sadly today another woman was killed in a gang-related shooting.
For far too long the community of Bonteheuwel has suffered. Now, on behalf of the 65 000 people in my community I am calling on the deployment of the army.
We have requested on numerous occasions for additional policing resources and specialised units to protect our community but the ANC-led national government and SAPS have done nothing but make empty promises, on a number of occasions, about the deployment of the army.
As part of the ward allocation, we have spent R450 000 on strengthening our fight against gangsterism and drugs in Bonteheuwel but this is not enough - we need the army.
Some SAPS officers in Bonteheuwel have displayed the willingness to support the community’s fight, but sadly the ANC and Police Minister have let them down. On a daily basis, under-resourced police officers are forced to come up against better trained and resourced officers, because the ANC-led national government refuses to equitably allocate policing resources to the DA-governed Western Cape.
Enough is enough. We will no longer be ignored.
The people of Bonteheuwel call on the army to help the police restore peace and order in our community.
