The Democratic Alliance condemns yet another senseless murder in the North-West Provinces vulnerable rural communities. Ronel van Eyck (46) phoned for help at 08:14 this morning, but the only sound she could make was a desperate rattling sound. She was shot four times (in her face (cheek), and upper left arm twice in her chest.) A Netcare 911 ambulance had taken her away but she said to her injuries on way to Klerksdorp.

The DA is not only saddened by the loss of a community member, but also an employer in our struggle to create jobs for the countless unemployed in South-Africa.

The farm is about a kilometre from Klerksdorp on the road Dominionville. The motive for the murder would be the weekend’s cattle sales and that she carried the money with her.

Ronel is survived by her husband Fred, son Nardus (21) a student at the NWU-PUK and Freddie, a Grade 3 pupil at Hartebeesfontein primary.

The DA has made repeated calls for rural safety units to be established as well as the petitions for the implementation of a Rural Safety plan we have adopted in the NW Province. The lack of Sector policing vehicles in the Hartebeesfontein area is endangering the lives of our rural communities.
