The Democratic Alliance in the North West is concerned after Ms Malitaba Moloisana was left paralysed by being forced to deliver her own baby.

The DA visited the mother of three at her home in Tsoelang Township in Wolmaransstad learning more of her shocking ordeal.

On 11 September 2015 Malitaba went to Nic Bodenstein Hospital where doctors began a caesarean operation on her, but later stitched her up without birthing the baby.

Still in pain, she was transferred to Klerksdorp Hospital which is nearly 80 km away. After six hours she finally delivered her own baby.

Her efforts, unassisted by any medical practitioners left her with serious internal damage, that have caused paralysis. Malitaba is now unable to care for her children as she used to.

The DA believes that quality healthcare is crucial to the well-being and dignity of South Africans. This gross negligence upon Ms. Moloisana must be brought to account.

The DA will write to the MEC of Health Dr Magome Masike asking him to institute an investigation into the events that led to Malitaba being paralysed, and to table that report in the Legislature, without delay.

The DA will also request the MEC to provide medical assistance and treatment that will help Moloisana to deal with her very limiting circumstances.

There is no place for this disorder in the healthcare delivery of this provincial government to the extent that it paralyses patients who present for routine procedures such as child-birth.
