The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape would like to wish the
learners who will begin their supplementary examinations tomorrow
well. We encourage you to make the best of this second chance to
achieve good marks. Use this opportunity to achieve your full
potential.
The supplementary exams will provide us with insight into the efficacy
of the department’s newly launched Second Chance programme. The
programme has the potential to deliver valuable support to learners
who need it and we must learn from this pilot phase how we can
implement it efficiently and cost-effectively.
We hope that the results of the supplementary examinations will boost
the abysmal pass rate in the province. The 2015 results revealed that
the education system is in a rapid decline, with fewer learners
achieving bachelors passes and passes in key subjects like Mathematics
and Physical Science in the province. We need to halt this trend
immediately.
A good education is a great launching pad for a fantastic future. The
DA believes that every child must be given the opportunity to access
education of a high quality.
