The DA will be submitting a supplementary affidavit to the SAPS to add to the charges we already laid against the Eskom Board of Directors, after more links between Eskom and Gupta-linked company, Trillian, emerged today.

According to reports:

  • Trillian received a hefty service fee for negotiating the settlement of a massive insurance claim, involving an explosion at the Duhva Power Plant;
  • Trillian were also then appointed to help source a new supplier to replace the boiler at the Duhva plant; and
  • Trillian has been accused of receiving millions of rands for work that was never done at Transnet.

The DA have already laid criminal charges against the Board, based on prima facie evidence contained in the Public Protector’s “State of Capture”.

The DA’s affidavit concerns possible criminal and/or statutory offences committed in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Act 1 of 1999, the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (PACCA), Act 12 of 2004 and the Powers Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, Act 4 of 2004.

Trillian has well-documented links to the Gupta’s through Salim Essa, a family associate, who owns 60% of the company. Essa is also the only director of VR Lazer Asia, the company which has resulted in huge controversy regarding the Denel Asia deal.

It is in the interest of the country that this vast network of capture of vital public enterprises be exposed so that those responsible can be held accountable.

This is why the DA will be submitting the supplementary affidavit against the Eskom Board. We will also be submitting parliamentary questions to get to the bottom of this matter.

Corruption steals opportunities, damages our economy, and hinders service delivery. The DA will not rest until this matter is fully investigated and action is taken against all those found guilty.
