The Democratic Alliance in Matlosana has notified Council Speaker Washington Ntozini of our intention to submit a motion of no confidence against the Executive Mayor Maile Kgaile.

Since the first day of office, Mayor Kgaile has proved that she is not interested in delivering proper services to the people of Matlosana, but has continuously ignored her duty to the people of Matlosana.

Instead, Mayor Kgaile wrote off her official state vehicle, wasted money on international investor trips with her entourage without attracting any new and sustainable investments for the city.

The City of Matlosana is suffering under a rapid deterioration of infrastructure, an unhealthy and filthy environment and non-functional financial system that results in the late submission of legislated financial reports like the MFMA Section 71 and 52 reports.

Last week the Provincial Treasury revealed that the city had incurred at least R3.9 billion in unauthorised, irregular and wasteful expenditure in the 2017/2018 financial year.

There are continuous and unmitigated water losses, there is sewage overflowing on the streets, sewage overflowing in complexes and even in clinics exposing patients to great health risks.

Roads are dilapidated without tar surfaces, there are dysfunctional electric meters, the streets are overgrown with grass, all this is a result of the lack of leadership by the Mayor and her failing ANC cabal.

The Mayor has failed in the functions and powers delegated to her to identify the needs of communities and to oversee the implementation of programmes, strategies and services to address priority needs in Matlosana.

She has not developed programmes to evaluate the progress against key performance indicators and continuously improve the effectiveness of the municipality.

Public meetings and Mayoral Imbizos’ are either attended by angry members of the public or completely ignored and not attended as residents are tired of empty promises.

The public has expressed their anger frustration over the Mayor’s inability to oversee a proper and transparent management in awarding tender contracts, her wasting of taxpayers’ money, the total negligence of certain areas and her inability to attend to issues reported to her office.

There is a number of white elephants stadiums such as the unfinished sports complex in Jouberton which remains unused and unmaintained.

The lack of job creation as a result of poor management of finances and corruption of projects has led to several protests in the Pienaarsdorp, Jouberton and Khuma areas. To date, memorandums of grievances that were submitted remain unanswered.

Sidewalks in town and the ridge of the N12 have become sleeping spots for the homeless since no new townships were established to make proper housing provisions since Mayor Kgaile rose to the helm of this municipality.

The failure to lead and execute a functional strategic planning session that would have resulted in a functional organogram has landed this institution in a swamp of all sorts of labour chaos. The Mayor wasted close to a million Rand of the public’s money in the appointment of her favourite consultant Mbuso who allegedly continues to unduly benefit from the council for doing nothing.  The last time a proper organogram was approved in this council was more than ten years ago.

The honourable thing for Mayor Kgaile to do would be for her to resign, the DA will, therefore, bring a motion of no confidence against to ensure that no further damage is done to the City of Matlosana.

The people of Matlosana have for too long suffered under the leadership of the failing ANC, it is clear that change is needed, come 2019 people should vote for a government that will deliver services, upgrade infrastructure, boost investor confidence for the city and create job opportunities.
