Cape Town

COSATU has uncovered orchestrated actions by a company, which is dismissing coloureds to replace them with white staff. Revealing evidence exists of how this company is dismissing coloured staff to replace them with white staff. Many of the white staff are incompetent, but are brought from other provinces to replace coloured staff. We will have the affected staff at the Press Conference, telling their stories of marginalisation and racism.

This is part of the general development in the province where companies are bringing whites into the Province to increase their numbers, as tacitly endorsed by Zille and the DA, with their opposition to Employment Equity. This practice has become widespread amongst companies in the Western Cape who preference white employees. The DA creates the impression that the contest for jobs is between Africans and Coloureds, but the reality is that they are actually replacing coloureds with whites in many of the middle management jobs. Many of the business opportunities are also going to white small businesses with insurance companies and the majority of the Provincial Government and the City of Cape Town spend goes to white businesses.

Cosatu will be calling for a boycott of companies that practice this kind of racism to advance the DA agenda of white preference and in this instance we are calling on the following companies to stop dealing with Value Logistics, unless they reinstate the affected employees and stop their racism.

The companies who are called to boycott Value Logistics by end August 2014 are
- Levy Strauss,
- Bridgestone,
- USABCO,
- LG,
- Samsung,
- Game,
- Cipla,
- Pick and Pay,
- Spar,
- Hi Fi Corp,
- Tafelberg Furniture’s,
- News world.

This attempt to turn Cape Town into a white owned and controlled bastion of apartheid must be stopped. We must promote the culture of non racialism and opportunity for all in the W Cape, otherwise the DA agenda of defending and maintaining white privileges will be realised in the W Cape. One needs only to look at the huge discrepancies in income and opportunity between the suburbs and the Cape Flats to see the agenda unfolding. The attentions of the communities are deflected by the gangs and drugs in townships which continue unabated. Political leaders who buy toys and liaise with gangsters have no interest or ability to stop the problems.

We need a serious review of the practices that are unfolding in the W Cape to reinforce the status quo of the white communities.
