The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has declared its support for members in the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) who are organising a job stayaway today.

The ZCTU believe the stayaway is necessitated by the failure of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to address the unions‚ concerns over its management style.

The ZCTU is calling for a one-day job stayaway with the demands including an upward review of benefits for workers, an investigation into all investments made by NSSA, NSSA to avail to the public, its audited accounts, and appointment of a substantive GM.

Cosatu said it also supports the ZCTU’s demands for the reinstatement of its president, Lovemore Matombo, who was dismissed from work.

The union stated that it also condemns the arrest of four activists of the ZCTU Western Region Committee, who were picked up by police on February 18, in Bulawayo.
