The Congress of South African Trade Unions congratulates Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and her team for department’s first clean audit since the dawn of democracy.
This clean audit comes not as a result of publicity stunts but rather hard work and dedication from the Minister and her team.
The Home Affairs Department has been haunted by corruption and mismanagement for years. This clean audit is therefore not only victorious but historic.
COSATU welcomes this development since it is the working class and the poor that are usually at the receiving end of terrible and corrupt service at the Home Affairs department.
The Minister’s commitment and hard work should inspire all other departments, particularly in view of renewing values and ethics in the public service.
This historic clean audit spells good news for the soon to be launched COSATU campaign on the public sector which seeks to bolster public service by amongst others changing public sector ethos and inculcating a culture of revolutionary service in the public sector.
COSATU will continue to work closely with the Minister to ensure that our people receive the best service at the hands of the Home Affairs department.
COSATU hopes that the same blacklisting measures will be taken in every other province where evidence of corruption, the abuse of tenders, overpricing and any other criminal acts comes to light.
