The Congress of South African Trade Unions has taken note of the media reports that allege that President Jacob Zuma impregnated Sonono Khoza. COSATU will not make comments or pass judgement on the matter until such time as the President has commented on it - to deny or to confirm.

Having noted the public discussion on the matter, the federation wishes once again to reaffirm its commitment to the basic tenets of the HIV and AIDS campaign, which is first and foremost about preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS.

No matter what the conclusions of the current discussion, the federation calls on all South Africans, in particular the youth and women, who statistically are more ravaged by the scourge of HIV and AIDS, to recommit themselves to the basic tenets of our common campaign.

The only way we will defeat the pandemic is when all of us repeat this message all the time, teach our children, galvanise the workers, mobilise the youth and appeal to every citizen that:

1. We must Abstain from sexual activity or as long as possible;

2. We must Be faithful to our partners;

3. We must Condomise if the above is not possible.
