The Congress of South African Trade Unions has nominated the following people to be members of the National Planning Commission, and we are requesting support from civil society for their nominations, in line with the recent successful public involvement in nominating members of the SABC Board
1. Professor Chris Malikane Economist based at University of Witwatersrand
2. Debbie Budlender Statistician & gender activist
3. Desmond Lesejane* SACC activist and peoples budget campaigner
4. Dinga Sikwebu Trade unionist - NUMSA intellectual & sociologist
5. Fiona Tregenna Economist & activist
6. Jay Naidoo DBSA Chairperson
7. Karl Von Holdt Labour researcher & sociologist
8. Oupa Bodibe Competition Commission economist
9. Patrick Bond Academic and activist
10. Seeraj Mohamed Economist
11. Tony Ehrenreich COSATU W Cape Provincial Secretary
12. Vivienne Taylor* Social scientist, chair of Taylor commission on social protection
13. Vuyiswa Tulelo* Youth activist and ANCYL Secretary General

We are requesting civil society organisations to nominate these candidates and others with relevant experience and skills, so that as far as possible all of us in the labour movement and broader civil society can support each other. In particular we suggest nominations covering the following skills, sectors and constituencies:
1. Education specialist
2. Constitutional Development law expert
3. Health Planning and Finance expert
4. Rural Development expert
5. People living with disability
