The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West held successfully May Day celebrations, with almost over 7 000 workers attending the event at the Taung Sports Ground on the 1st May 2015.

As the federation in the North West, we thank everyone, who played a role for our successful May Day which started with a big march on violence against the killing of the foreign nation, condemning the continuation of looting the shops by real criminals and those damaging government properties.
We thank all COSATU members, who made it to the May Day celebration with or without transporting them.
We are once again warning the employers, who are busy taking a database of those who attended May Day celebration to be dismissed.

All workers are instructed by COSATU to report all those employers in particular the farmers, retailers, securities and wholesalers.
Workers day is a public holiday and workers must attend their activities in all sectors.
COSATU North West call on those employers, who threaten workers to stop the apartheid-tactic and attitude.
The constitution of the Republic of South Africa allows all workers to excess their rights, including celebrating May Day.

We are informed that some of the big companies are threatening to dismiss workers, who attended the May Day celebration.
We call on all workers to report those incidents to their affiliates and the Federation as soon as this happen. And workers must not sign any form or letter before they can verify with their Union or with COSATU.
We will be going back to Taung to investigate the allegations that some big shops and farmers refused workers to attend the celebrations.

We call on all employers of domestic workers, security workers and farm workers to celebrate with their own employees so that they become productive at work.
Employer are warned by COSATU to stop abusing their capital power, stop exploiting workers and stop oppression in the new South Africa.
As we are approaching the 15th March 2015 as per our program, we will be taking a mass action against municipalities, who continue to undermine laws of this country such as the Occupational, Health and Safety [OHS].

The majority of workers in the municipalities are still employed for over five years as a contract workers, casual workers, employed by labour brokers and also security workers are exploited under the name of so-called developing small businesses.
Poor workers at Aurora are still waiting for their money.
The court has been ruling that those Aurora criminals must pay workers what is due to them, and until today nothing has happened and our government is quite.

The case has been in and out from the high court of Gauteng; A ruling has been made on top of the ruling, and with no action.
We are still waiting the judgement of the criminal case which was planned to be for five days and it was changed to be for two days, no ruling until today.

Poor workers in the EPWP are exploited by municipalities, working under bad conditions for many years, not registered, not allowed to be joining any union.
We have been waiting a political discussion with the Premier, the MEC and the mayors, who are allowing EPWP workers to be exploited at the local level.

The MEC of Public works has been engaging with the unions led by COSATU to find a solution.
We have sent many letters to the office of the Premier, with no response and we have no option, in this month of workers, but to take the struggle on the streets.
We call on all workers, who continue to be exploited to be ready for a fight.

Workers must be employed according to labour laws and be paid according to sectoral determinations.
