The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) reported yesterday that it condemns the dismissal of Lovemore Matombo, President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), by the management of Zimpost (Zimbabwe Posts) on January 23, 2004.

Matombo allegedly absented himself from work from January 5-12, while leading the ZCTU delegation to the 8th Congress of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), which was held in Khartoum, Sudan.

Cosatu said that it believed that Matombo had been targeted, and has demanded his unconditional reinstatement, and the lifting of the suspension of the three members of his union's executive committee by the Zimpost management, within seven days, as demanded by the ZCTU.
