The Congress of the People (Cope) is likely to get between eight and 12 percent vote in the upcoming elections, according to research conducted by Markinor.

Markinor executive director Mari Harris told the Mail and Guardian newspaper that polls put Cope's support at between eight and 12 percent.

"In the field that is what we are picking. There is a floating vote of eight percent up for grabs, so it depends on how Cope behaves itself in the time before the elections," said Harris.

Cope was formed by former African National Congress veterans Terror Lekota, Mluleki George and Mbhazima Shilowa, partly in protest against an ANC decision to axe former president Thabo Mbeki.
