The Limpopo text books saga has exposed President Jacob Zuma as an uncaring and incapable leader who lacks vision to drive a Nation. He has been tight-lipped when the Basic Education Department and Limpopo Education Departments fail repeatedly to implement a court order compelling them to deliver text books to schools in Limpopo.
Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga and Limpopo Education Mec Dickson Masemola have dismally failed the children of Limpopo.
The opportunity now exists for President Jacob Zuma to walk-the-talk and release a report of the Presidential Task Team which has been sitting on his table for consideration for a month.
The Limpopo text books fiasco has gone on far too long without anyone being called upon to account for the mess. It is high time that pupils, parents, teachers and the nation at large are enlightened on (a) causes of the non-delivery and delays in delivering textbooks; (b) progress on the catch-up plan; and (c) procurement of text books for the 2013 academic year, as per terms of reference of the Investigating Task Team into the Limpopo text books crisis.
COPE therefore challenges the President to release the report without further delay and hold those who are found to have done wrong accountable. Mangaung should not act as a deterrent. It is mind boggling so see the President struck by such paralysis.
COPE believes that the education of the pupils comes first. COPE therefore calls on the President to act expeditiously because learners across the country are close to sitting for their final examinations.
