The Mangaung inspired infighting in the ruling party has distracted government departments as in Limpopo. This is clear for everyone to see.
As late as Wednesday, yet another consignment of books was once again found dumped in Polokwane. Obviously these books were paid for and all that departmental officials and businesses that won the tenders were interested in was the money. They didn’t care about the children.
Such shocking criminality requires to be met with the full rigour of the law.
COPE is fuming at this rotten state of affairs. The education of thousands of Limpopo children has been compromised by tender mongers and corrupt officials. Greed has overtaken every other consideration.
COPE will request the Public Protector to investigate all of the reported incidents of textbook dumping and request the South African Police Service (SAPS) to intensify their investigation into this
>matter.
COPE is anxious about the state of preparation of learners without books considering that many will soon be taking their final
examinations. What guarantees do we have that they (pupils) are ready and well-prepared to take the examinations?
COPE supports the call by other parties for the department of education in Limpopo to disclose information on its policy of destroying old textbooks.
We urge community members and whistle blowers to help authorities expose every criminal who has been on a mission to destroy the future of our children.
