Congress of the People (COPE) in Parliament supports the interdict on the controversial and largely opposed e-toll system in Gauteng.
COPE MP, Mr. Leornard Ramatlakane, reiterated COPE’s rejection of the tolling system without an alternative road and said it was a ‘terrible bailout’ to SANRAL which should never be supported.
COPE has indicted during the Budget Appropriate Debate in Parliament that it will continue opposing the inconsistent e-toll system because its implications are far more than what is being downplayed.
We therefore support the alternative mechanisms and formulas available and we will engage in those processes in Parliament in ensuring that tax payer’s don’t foot the bill for this terrible SANRAL bailout.
The review process under the discussion is what we are going to be engaged with in the interest of all South Africans.
