A pensive Cope president says the dissention in the YM is in fact a gift to the party.
He went on to explain that COPE was born under a baptism of fire, with all the attendant euphoria, turmoil and chaos that goes with such a birth. He urged COPE not to dismiss the "impatience of the COPEYM" and to acknowledge the frustrations at the many challenges for COPE's ambitious proposed expansions and campaigns, and urged COPE members " to build on the wisdom that sometimes only setbacks can bring."
He said further the matters of concern to the COPEYM were relevant, and also disturbing to COPE. "However, (we) have to be practical and take our opportunities when and how we can. We all must take full ownership of the problems as set out by the COPE YM, and work even harder..."
He further stated that Cope is confident that the next few months will clearly begin to stamp COPE's authority and show substantial and co-ordinated initiatives from the party.
"the public will soon begin to see COPE's teeth&hellip" he added.
He added the COPEYM comment that minimal branches have been set up is valid, but "we have to address this issue within the confines of our organizational capacity -It is that simple."
"That being said, we trust our members to not play to the bandstand," he warned, and the "blustering of an undisciplined Youth Movement is not the way of COPE, and any attempt to undermine the infrastructure and leadership of COPE will be decisively dealt with"
"Therefore the media reports of some factions within the COPEYM calling for the dissolution of COPE leadership are disappointing, but such are growing pains of a young party".
The support for the COPE from many quarters of the country has been gratifying and a sharp reminder that many have their hopes pinned on us.
" We regard the COPE YM outburst as ill-conceived, but perhaps in the light of their frustration with the constraints we have as the "new kids on the block," understandable.
We must up our game.
