Over the past few days a number of public pronouncements have been made by various interim structures of COPE. These pronouncements have purported to express a preference for, or the support of one or another candidate for various positions.
COPE wishes to state that these pronouncements are without any standing or legitimacy. The CNC of the party has yet to finalise the process for nominations to be made, so these announcements are premature, to say the least. It is also clear that these pronouncements have not been mandated by the relevant structures. These have resulted in a response from other members and structures who do not support the view expressed publicly.
Such pronouncements can only promote divisions in the party and cannot be in the interests of building COPE. We call on the members of the party to be disciplined and to avoid this tendency or to be provoked by it.
The CNC of COPE will be meeting on Monday 26 April 2010 to give guidance on the nominations process.
