The Congress of the People would like to express its shock at the sudden passing of Democratic Alliance MP Cobus Schmidt. He was killed in a road accident in Welkom on Monday night.

We have been working very closely with Cobus on the campaign for Clean, Affordable, Sustainable Energy (CASE) for the last few weeks. In his position as the DA's shadow minister for energy, as well as serving on the portfolio committee for energy, his input was invaluable in helping to craft a strategy to change the monopolistic stranglehold that Eskom has over the South African public

We have worked well with him this term and his presence will be sorely missed.

We wish his family strength during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them.
