The Congress of the People is taken aback about the changes made by the Minister of State Security on the Protection of State Information Bill, controversially known as the Secrecy Bill.
The Minister’s disturbing announcement made no mention at all of certain proposed amendments including a public interest defence clause in the controversial Secrecy Bill.
It was equally mind boggling to learn that the State Security Agency is unhappy with the amendments made to clause 43 and would also like to see the return of the controversial clause 1(4) which would have allowed the Secrecy Bill to trump PAIA.
Minister of State Security has reversed all the hard work of the ad Hoc committee.
COPE will continue fighting for the inclusion of a Defence Clause and other amendments in the Bill in ensuring that good comes out of this controversial Bill.
