More than 90 children from various schools throughout the country accompanied by their teachers visited the Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg, on Sunday.
The tour was organised by the national Department of Education.
The learners toured the premises and were shown prison cells where some of the country's respected politicians were once detained during the apartheid regime.
Many of South Africa's leading political activists including Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were once detained there.
The Constitutional Hill, which was known for human rights violations for ex-political prisoners during the apartheid regime, is now the new home of the Constitutional Court.
