The National Episcopal Conference of the Congo was the only major religious group in the central African country not to sign the declaration, which called on candidates and political parties to accept the election result, the news agency reported yesterday.
It didn't say who issued the declaration.
Congo, which is the size of the U.S. east of the Mississippi River, has a population of 60 million people, 55 percent of whom are Catholic, according to Catholic Relief Services' Web site.
Episcopal Conference President Laurent Monsengwo threatened not to recognize the result of the election if certain “irregularities” aren't addressed, the news agency added, without providing further details.
