The DA’s portfolio member responsible for Public Works will be demanding answers at the Legislature for the Public Works office closure in Petrusburg and seeking clarification on the department's plans for road maintenance. Additionally, the DA in Letsemeng will conduct an oversight campaign across the municipality to assess the extent of mismanagement.
This follows the closure of the Public Works office as a result of poor funding and the mismanagement of public works under the ANC-led MEC, Dibolelo Mance. Due to this, the office is unable to maintain roads in the Letsemeng Local Municipality.
As a consequence, road users are now solely reliant on the Trompsburg office for road maintenance, leading to a significant deterioration in the condition of the roads. This has placed a burden on farmers who now have to personally maintain the provincial roads to transport their products to the markets.
Moreover, with the closure of the offices, essential equipment has been relocated to the traffic office in Petrusburg for safekeeping, while a skeleton staff is working from home. This disruption is deeply concerning for community members who rely on the proper functioning of these offices.
The DA remains committed to restoring hope and effective governance for our communities. We call on all residents to register for the upcoming National and Province
Issued by Thabo Nthapo - DA Councillor Letsemeng Local Municipality
