China is planning to invest in infrastructure projects in Angola and Mozambique in exchange for the rights to exploit natural resources there, an official with an association of Portuguese-speaking businesses said yesterday.

Portuguese-speaking African countries "possess major natural resources and constitute an attractive market of more than 200-million people," said Lusa Rita Santos, coordinator for the Macao-based International Business Association of Portuguese Entrepreneurs.

She said China was interested in forming joint ventures in developing countries.

The association in September will host a meeting in Macao – a former Portuguese colony next-door to Hong Kong - of Chinese business leaders and investors as a first step toward boosting economic cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. – Sapa-AFP.
