Title: Balindlela: Statement on M Moerane-Mamase court case
MEC Moerane-Mamase appears in court with her husband by Premier Nosimo Balindlela
18 March 2005
Members of the media, thank you for coming to this conference. Let me take this opportunity to welcome you all.
On Wednesday, 16 March 2005, MEC Neo Moerane-Mamase informed me that she has been asked to respond to a set of questions, regarding the Kangela and the Boonie Doon house. Subsequently, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) informed me of this matter.
This morning, she advised me that she has appeared in court and has been formally charged. Unfortunately at this moment I am not in a position to divulge the contents, as the matter is sub-judice.
In the meantime MEC Neo Moerane-Mamase has asked for a leave of absence, in order to allow me to assess the situation as the matter develops. Consequently I have appointed MEC Sam Kwelita to act during her absence.
When I took office I indicated that I will strengthen the campaign against all forms of corruption at all levels.
I call upon all the citizens of the province to work with us to create a legacy of clean government and go an extra mile in serving our people.
I thank you.
