The Executive Council of Ministers discussed a range of issues such as conflict resolution in Africa, terrorism and the setting up of other AU structures necessary for the effective functioning of the organisation.
COM urged members to establish a terrorism agency as part of a continental move to prevent terrorists’ attacks that continued to threaten the entire globe.
Algeria is believed to be working towards establishing an efficient anti terror-agency to deal a blow to terrorist groupings that have hit it and other African states such as Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Malawi and South Africa over the past months resulting in the death of people.
COM said terrorists had identified Africa as a suitable ground for terrorist’s activities due to the continent’s under-resourced security agencies.
It said week financial systems in some countries made it easier for terrorists to transfer funds aimed at sponsoring their network.
South Africa is currently about to finalise a comprehensive Terrorism Bill as part of its response to growing acts of terror globally. – BuaNews.
