The Second Conference of the African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty, also known as the Treaty of Pelindaba, will be held at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, from 12 to 13 November 2012.
The Conference will discuss the establishment of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and other issues of concern to the Zone.
The Pelindaba Treaty entered into force on 15 July 2009. It prohibits the search, development, manufacture, stockpiling, acquisition, testing, possession and stationing of nuclear explosive devices in the territory of the States Parties as well as dumping of radioactive waste.
Journalists are invited to cover the opening session of the Second Conference of the African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty in the Plenary Hall of the Old AU Conference Center on 12 November at 14h00.
