The assembly forms part of a series of political and multidisciplinary activities lined up for Africa Day to mark the 40th anniversary of the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU).
The OAU was founded on May 25 years 1963 and has since been replaced by the AU.
President Thabo Mbeki, the AU chairperson, will together with other continental leaders join thousands of Africans in celebrating Africa Day set for May 25 at the Johannesburg Stadium.
South Africa’s top musicians like Mirriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo and Zibokwakhe Mnyandu, will entertain the crowd.
Meanwhile the Gauteng provincial government has begun facilitating a series of cultural and educational activities across the province that showcase African films, poetry, ethnic and historical backgrounds of Africans in a move to stimulate interest and pride in everything African. – BuaNews.
