The ANC Youth League National Working Committee which sat on the 14th of
December 2009 in Esselen Park (Kempton Park) received a report from the ANC
YL delegation to the SACP 2nd Special Congress. The NWC decided to discuss
the issue of booing by SACP delegates because the ANC is silent on the
behaviour of delegates at the Communist Party Congress. The ANC is silent
because the ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe is conflicted and does not
want to speak against the SACP, where is a Chairperson. The ANC YL NWC is of
a view that the booing of the ANC YL President by some delegates in Congress
was planned by the leadership of the Communist Party. The reason why the
leadership of the Communist Party did not condemn the behaviour of delegates
attests to the fact that the SACP leadership agrees with the booing. The
SACP leadership further sang along to insulting songs that we sung in the
Special Congress about the leadership of the ANC YL, and did not condemn
delegates who were doing so. The public articulations of Jeremy Cronin and
Buti Manamela attests to the fact that the Communist Party leadership is
celebrating the booing and heckling of the ANC YL President:

The NWC is convinced that the main reason why the SACP leadership supports
the booing of the ANC YL President is because they believe the ANC YL does
not support the bid of Blade Nzimande to become Deputy President in
the 53rdNational Congress of the ANC in 2012, and that the Youth
League will not
support Gwede Mantashe for 2nd term as ANC Secretary General. SACP General
Secretary Blade Nzimande is a master character assassinator and thinks he
will succeed in the character assassination of ANC YL President. The ANC YL
publicly vows that he will not succeed as the President of the ANC YL is a
democratically elected leader of the ANC Youth League supported by all
structures of the ANC YL and young people in South Africa. The ANC YL will
not agree to the dumping of undemocratic leaders into the ANC, and we will
decide on the leadership of the ANC when the time is right.

Jeremy Cronin's statements that the booing was a lesson to the President of
the ANC YL will be met with practical action on the ground and will be long
lasting lesson to him. Jeremy Cronin continues with his superiority- complex
undermining of the ANC Youth League to the extent of using the political
report of the Central Committee to refer to the ANC YL leadership as
chauvinist and proto-fascist, guided by what he calls Kebble-ism. The
continued labelling by Jeremy Cronin is a reflection of laziness to engage
on deeper ideological questions and a strange trend by Jeremy to protect the
interests of white monopoly capitalists. Jeremy Cronin should stop using the
Communist Party to spread conspiracies and settle scores. He continues to
oppose the Nationalisation of Mines despite the fact that the Special
Congress resolved on Nationalisation of Mines, and our conclusion is that he
is protecting the interests of white monopoly capital.

The statements of the factionalist Buti Manamela are equally sad and reflect
the fact that he is a product of undemocratic practices and processes in the
Communist Party. Buti Manamela was undemocratically appointed and anointed
by Blade Nzimande and Phillip Dexter as a leader of the Young Communist
League, against the resistance of all delegates in 2003. The reason why Buti
Manamela is always calling for the SACP to contest against the ANC is
because he is inspired by his role model and fellow factionalist Phillip
Dexter who is the strategist of failing COPE. If the Communist Party wants
to contest elections against the ANC, it must say so and stop threatening us
and behaving like an opposition Party in the ANC.

Members of the ANC and ANC YL are called upon to rise and defend the African
National Congress against the pressure group and factionalists masquerading
as Communists. Any attempts to liquidate the ANC will be defeated. The ANC
Youth League will continue with the struggles to ensure that Mines are
nationalised and will meet with all interested stakeholders, including
COSATU and other progressive forces. We will not engage with the leadership
of the Communist Party until its leadership condemns the behaviour of the
delegates at the Special National Congress for booing the leadership of the
ANC.

The ANC YL top-five officials will deal with media enquiries concerning this
issue, particularly the Deputy President, Deputy Secretary General and
Treasurer General. The Secretary General is on leave and the ANC YL
President Julius Malema will respond to questions at the National Press Club
on Tuesday, the 15th of December 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel, Tshwane at
10H00.
