The African National Congress Youth League condemns the sensationalist media
in Britain. Once more, the British newspapers continue to spread misleading
and dangerous rumours about South Africa in their newspapers. The Daily
Star, a newspaper which models itself as Britain's most successful newspaper
ran a sensationalist story, which sought to suggest that there is a race war
in South Africa, which World Cup fans should be scared of.
South African media should wake up to the reality that whilst they are busy
trying to be copy-cats of British media institutions and ethics, they are
busy rubbishing the image of our country with the intention to dissuade
soccer fans from attending the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup. The front page
story which we attach for all to see tells a lot about the racist,
sensational and sick media ethics that have come to define British
journalists and editors. All South Africans are called upon to defend
integrity of South Africa and work within proper ethics and facts in their
reports about our country.
