The African National Congress Youth League(ANCYL), will join the world in marking the International Campaign for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and children from the 25th November - 10th December.

The theme remains: "Act Against Abuse, Don't Look Away". The ANCYL, being the vanguard of society will be actively participating in processes and activities towards the creation of a society that values that women and children in society and guarding against any form of violence.

We must therefore ensure that the Criminal Justice System responds to the uniqueness of the crimes of violence perpetuated against women and children and that the Criminal Justice System encourages women and children to speak out against violence, as silence further perpetuates violence.

The ANCYL will participate in the Summit on the 10 year Report on 16 Days of Activism. The activities of the ANCYL will focus on ensuring the establishment of the Young Women's Desk in ensuring that issues of young women in all strata of society including in Institutions of Higher Learning are offered a platform of expression and are hastily resolved.

Further, the ANCYL will include as part of the programme support for the Campaign against Substance and Alcohol Abuse as this further deepens and perpetuates violence against the most vulnerable of society in particular young women and chiildren.

The ANCYL will also campaign as part of its activities on World Aids Day, on the impact of HIV and AIDS as a result of violence on women and children.

The ANCYL calls upon all members of society, organs of state, private companies and civil society to advance and strenghten their approaches and interventions against the violence against women and children as this remains the inhibitor of a progressive society and world.

We continue to campaign against forms of patriarchy that further oppress women and call upon women in general and young women in particular to speak out against abusers, so the collective hand of society can arrest these violations.

We applaud legislations and systems in place aimed at protecting women and children, however, we call for further enhancement of these systems and zero tolerance on abusers.
