The ANCYL has learnt with shock of the attempted assassination and/or intimidation of dynamic socialist and undoubtedly the champion of the poor and the grossly marginalized, Cde Irvin Jim in Kwa Zulu Natal last night.
It is worrisome that unmarked cars continue to roam the streets of South Africa with such advanced traffic monitoring measures. This is illegal and smells of suspicion and ill intent.
Such actions of intimidation are a clear effort to suppress healthy politics and robust engagement within the Tripartite Alliance. The assassination attempt on the life of Cde Jim adds to the increasing numbers of assassinations in Kwa Zulu Natal and Mpumalanga particularly.
This should be a concern to all in society, and especially concerning to the leaders and members of the Tripartite Alliance, as such actions of intimidation weaken the safety net for those who raise their political views in society.
The ANCYL therefore calls for an Independent Commission of Inquiry headed by a retired judge and senior experienced policemen into the assassinations of political leaders to investigate the root cause for such notoriety and collusion of politics and criminality especially as we proceed to the
53rdNational Elective Congress of the ANC.
The ANCYL calls upon all in society to be cautious and wary and report incidents that may raise suspicion and concern.
