The ANC Youth League wishes Comrade Nelson Mandela, a revolutionary fighter for freedom, world peace and equal society, a custodian of freedom charter a joyous 93rd birthday. Comrade Nelson Mandela continues to inspire the struggle for the building of a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and united South Africa. In everything we do, we seek to continue and carry forward the struggles of Comrade Nelson Mandela and the founding generation of the ANC Youth League, which pronounced freedom in their lifetime.

We salute the efforts and sacrifice made by Comrade Mandela in bringing us Freedom and Peace in His Lifetime, fighting the brutal apartheid system and remaining Volunteer in Chief of the ANC always ready to respond to a revolutionary mandate. Comrade Mandela has always remained a committed, loyal and disciplined member of the ANCYL and the ANC and honouring his commitment to South Africans by bringing political liberation to South Africa.

Comrade Nelson Mandela has played an extremely positive role in mobilising the people of South Africa behind the implementation of the Freedom Charter, a social contract with the people which resonates the high values of the ANC in ensuring that the people benefit from the wealth of the land. The programme for economic freedom in our lifetime is today inspired by the courageous commitment of Nelson Mandela and the entire founding generation of the ANC Youth League.

The ANCYL encourages the young people of South Africa to follow in the impeccable example of Comrade Nelson Mandela in their devotion to their country demonstrating the kind of discipline and humanity displayed by Madiba his political commitment to South Africa for sixty seven years of his life and his continued commitment to the world. For the 2011 Mandela, the ANC Youth League calls on all youth people of South Africa, Africa and the world to commemorate Comrade Nelson Mandela by dedicating the 67 minutes and more to social responsibility programmes and everything positive that should contribute to human development and sustainable livelihoods.

As Comrade Nelson Mandela continues to inspire the world extending his support to reconciliation, development of the poor and vulnerable, always protecting the rights of children and advocating gender equality, we should never forget his massivecontributions as a young revolutionary and activist of the ANC Youth League. The young revolutionary in Comrade Nelson Mandela remains as he continues to contribute to peace and global democracy. Such was his contribution when hebrought the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa. Madiba remains a giant humanitarian and activist as we watched the world celebrate unity during the World Cup.

The ANC Youth League specially encourages all young people to change their profile pictures on facebook, twitter, BBM, linked in, MXit and all social sites to be pictures of Comrade Nelson Mandela. This will be a sign of appreciation and celebration of the role Comrade Nelson Mandela played in the struggle for political, social and economic emancipation of the black majority and Africans in particular.
