The African National Congress Youth League dismisses reports that ANC Youth
League President Julius Malema will step down as President of the ANC Youth
League in 2011. We ought to dismiss these reports because wrong messages are
being sent to members of the ANC Youth League across the country. In the
Press Conference, which happened on the 30th of September 2010, ANC Youth
League President responded to a question by a Journalist on the ANC Youth
League succession possibilities. In line with organisational traditions and
principles, the President responded by saying that a term of office in the
ANC YL is three years and that the term he is currently serving as President
will end in 2011, where a new National Executive Committee collective will
be elected.
The ANC Youth League places it on clear record that ANC Youth League
President never said he will not be available for re-election as President
of the ANC Youth League. Matters of leadership consideration and
availability are decided by branches and structures of the ANC Youth League
and in this instance, the following Provinces have already resolved that ANC
YL President should be available for re-election in 2011: Northern Cape,
Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, North West, Free State and Eastern Cape.
As a matter of principle, ANC Youth League President will never betray the
call of branches of the ANC Youth League.
